POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in
providing quality loans for the financial institution by underwriting and
evaluating residential mortgage applications originated by loan officers and
other bank personnel.
Recommends
approval of customer applications for residential loans by reviewing loan
policy, government requirements and secondary market requirements.
Seeks additional guidance from Underwriter II
and Underwriting Team Leader when applicable.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Receives loan files originated by the financial institution and reviews files for all necessary forms and information according to government guidelines, secondary market guidelines and **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. loan policy.
Analyzes applicant’s financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan.
Makes an underwriting decision for each loan, working with Underwriter II when applicable.
Confers with loan officers and Underwriter II to aid in resolving mortgage application problems.
Keeps informed of current underwriting practices and changes to guidelines
Communicate with appraisers when issues are present on appraisals.
Evaluates construction loan documentation from third party.
Lock rates on secondary market, MSHA and RD with assistance from Underwriter II.
Monitors pipeline for on time delivery to secondary market.
Submit loans through -Loan Product Advisor (LPA) and Guaranteed Underwriting System (GUS).
Presents caution loans, loans with exceptions and loans with unique characteristics to Loan Committee for approval.
With assistance from Underwriter II, register MSHA and RD loans, submit loan packages to RD for loan approval and follow up for deficiencies on MSHA and RD loans.
When applicable obtain subordination from outside lending institutions and **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***..
Review loans for final approval to be sure all conditions and issues are resolved prior to closing.
Works with Loan Officers and Lenders to build strong internal relationships.
Provides immediate notification to Loan Officers and Lenders of any deficiencies in the loan file.
Works with the Underwriter II, to research alternative methods of loan delivery if the loan does not meet the guidelines of the product selected.
Accountable for completion of all compliance training and adhering to all regulatory guidelines.
Is a positive role model for team and others.
Other

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
REQUIRED:
High School diploma or equivalent.
2 years of experience processing to secondary market and government program guidelines.
1 year pre-underwriting training
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have strong written communications skills, including letter and report writing ability.
Must possess a positive attitude and be willing to work as an effective team player.
Must be able to communicate clearly by telephone; must have good listening ability and skills.
Must be able to prioritize and organize work flow; must have good attention to detail; must be able to handle multiple jobs.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office 2010 programs to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Must be able to read and work with computer printout reports.
Must be able to spend extended periods of time operating a computer keyboard and working at a computer monitor.
Must be able to sit for extended periods, more than four hours per day.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical surroundings
are generally pleasant and comfortable with minimal exposure to injury or other
hazards.
Minimal physical effort
required; normally seated with freedom of movement on a regular basis; handling
of light materials and supplies.
