Washington, PA. Your impact as an Underwriting Specialist I Job DescriptionTimely and accurate review of applications and related documents including contracts, historical information, source systems, reference material, claims history as well as gather all data necessary to assess risk against established underwriting guidelines and make sound decisions in determining coverage offerings and premium ratingAccountable for accurate data entry and account/case documentation on the system and image documents as well as clear communications with the customer, broker, sales and service areasResponsible for maintaining strong working knowledge of capabilities, products, necessary resources, strategic direction, new initiatives, competitors, marketing materials and available technologyDirectly accountable for producing expected underwriting results (premium rate and loss ratios) for carrier and Affinity's program's)Participates in carrier audits as well as internal quality auditsLeads and/or participates in long or short term projects as requiredUnderstand and fully explain rate development, pricing components and application of underwriting procedures and guidelines while not losing sight of financial objectivesSupports new business underwriting needs as well as conserve existing business utilizing established methods to meet retention goalsAbility to explain policy provisions and procedures to customers, brokers and sales verbally and in writingFor risks or concerns outside of assigned underwriting authority, update the system and prepare necessary documentation for internal or carrier referrals and make appropriate recommendationsParticipate on calls with sales, brokers and/or customers in a professional mannerProcess complex policy changes and mid-term endorsementsIdentify and act upon cross-selling and upgrade opportunities with sales, brokers or the customerTrack and submit daily, weekly, monthly productivity results and time according to Aon and department tools and policiesCollaborate with sales and brokers to understand and address unique circumstances and needs (timing, coverage, pricing) for specific applicants or customersCompile and outline for sales, broker or customer any additional information required to facilitate the application and underwriting processAdhere to underwriting guidelines, compliance and regulatory rules, Aon and department policies and proceduresLearn multiple products to support revenue growth and cross-sell initiatives Special Skills:Proven ability to facilitate and negotiate using tact and diplomacy.
