AVP, Underwriter Capital Analytics - CapitalSource (Nashville, TN)
The AVP, Underwriter's focus is ABL/Re-discount auditing (ABL field examination). Responsible for the supervision and conduct of various commercial underwriting and due diligence endeavors of a wide array of financing transactions. In conjunction therewith, the position determines the visibility and viability of the financial operations, financial position, credit and collateral, risks, etc. based on CapitalSource’s lending criteria and underwriting guidelines. This applies to both new deal transactions and recurring credit and collateral monitoring examinations (CCMEs) conducted periodically on existing portfolio borrowing entities
The AVP, Underwriter is also responsible for making appropriate deal structure and funding recommendations, completion of all applicable and requisite deliverables as warranted, and will actively participate in various special projects and initiatives under the auspices of the Director of the PWB underwriting group.
Underwrite new business financing transactions and perform CCMEs:
Participate in or conduct initial meeting/discussion with the deal team, investment officer or loan officers/credit analysts to gain a clear understanding of the transaction structure, terms and conditions per the term sheet and as further described in the Initial Client or Concepts Memo, and develop an agreed-upon scope and plan of the requisite underwriting endeavor and related budget.
Gain an understanding of any proposed collateral issues (as applicable) to secure the loan or that may exist on a current portfolio client. Coordinate and discuss with the applicable staff (deal team, loan officer, supervisor, director, etc.) any additional resources required as well as the scope of the diligence, timing, concerns, issues and other underwriting logistics.
Perform due diligence analytics, either via an on-site visit or desk exam approach, with the prospective or existing borrower and analyze historical and projected financial statements and associated data and cash flows, and financial position.
Analyze liquidity, conduct valuation analyses, review and access collateral (depending on loan type), debt service, risks and mitigants, analyze/verify operational and programmatic aspects of the client's business plan, etc. and coordinate with the underwriting team and supervise the adequate and timely completion of the diligence endeavor.
Assess applicable business and industry trends
Partake in the evaluation of management
Assist in performing customer and vendor references
Assess covenant compliance
Actively partakes in special reviews, research and ad-hoc analytics as warranted
Prepare timely underwriting reports and or work paper packages in accordance with credit policy and underwriting guidelines, as well as other communications such as memorandums, emails, or special reports as warranted in the circumstances
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
4 – 5 years related ABL auditing / accounting experience required
3 years commercial underwriting/lending experience at a financing institution or commercial bank (asset based, re-discount, term loans, cash flow and healthcare lending) is a plus
Experience in public accounting is strongly preferred
Accounting and auditing skills critical
Demonstrated financial analysis and credit evaluation abilities are essential
Proficient in MS Word and Excel
Excellent written and oral presentation skills
Strong interpersonal skills are required
Must be a self-starter and able to multi-task, work efficiently on own and in team environment, and be readily adaptable to change and exhibit effective supervisory skills
Travel required 35%, (sometimes on a short 3 days’ notice)
