ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY As a Property & Casualty Middle Market Underwriter at The Hartford, your primary role will be to underwrite and actively pursue new business pricing, servicing the needs of our brokerage partners on an account by account basis. Youu2019ll analyze the agency book on quarter-to-quarter basis for potential action. In addition, youu2019ll coaches and mentor staff on your team, providing support to junior underwriters. ADDITIONAL KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE Agency Management: u2022u00a0Typically manages higher volume and/or higher Total Written Premium goal compared to country-wide standard u2022u00a0May or may not act with high levels of Underwriting Authority u2022u00a0Creates, drives and executes on strategies for new and/or renewal accounts (prospective book management, executes on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial and agency sales plans, etc.) u2022u00a0Consults and provides solutions u2022u00a0Effectively provides excellent account management service of assigned division through strategic planning and operational excellence. Ensures the consistent delivery and execution of the Circle of Service process; tailoring a service plan for each client based on needs. Positively impacts and influences final account pricing and terms. Successfully sells the proposal u2022u00a0Responsible for, or influences, retention u2022u00a0Takes lead in communicating strategy to the agency; coordinates communications across the Enterprise; educates others on the strategy u2022u00a0Coaches and mentors others on Agency Management u2022u00a0Trusted advisor to agents and brokers; manages the book of business Sales: u2022u00a0Establishes and maintains pipeline u2022u00a0Manages cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across team; generates cross-sell opportunities u2022u00a0Manages the sales process including planning, operating routines, and monitoring u2022u00a0Sources opportunities for other team members u2022u00a0Coaches and mentors others on sales practices u2022u00a0Is well versed about every aspect of The Hartford's Value proposition to best position us for success. Is professionally demanding and holds internal and external customers accountable. Service: u2022u00a0Consulting with the agents to answer questions regarding coverage, explaining processes, directing the agents to appropriate resources within the Hartford based on their unique needs u2022u00a0Directs and coordinates identified service issues u2022u00a0Is highly familiar with how service operates u2022u00a0Makes recommendations to service; provides feedback to Service leaders Qualifications WHO YOU ARE u2022 Youu2019re capable of underwriting highly complex business and will require limited support from senior underwriters and infrequent referral activity to complete quotes u2022 You have thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and governance u2022 You have 8 years of P&C carrier Middle Market Underwriting experience (or 5 years for a Senior level underwriter); position level and title commensurate with experience and determined after careful review and validation of candidate's qualifications. u2022 You have superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills u2022 You have proven presentation abilities u2022 You have stellar sales and negotiation skills. u2022 You have strong relationship building skills. u2022 You have a BS/BA degree or equivalent in experience. u2022 You ideally have your CPCU or other related designation(s). u2022 Youu2019re able to travel 20-30% within the broker assigned territory u2022 You have a valid driveru2019s license, as a company pool car will be available foru00a0day travel within the local territory u2022 You operate under the mindset of The Hartfordu2019s Behaviors: Deliver Outcomes, Operate as a Team Player, Build Strong Partnerships and Strive for Excellence COMPENSATION At The Hartford, our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay competitive base salaries and reward performance.
