Position Title: Underwriting Analyst (Commercial Mortgage Lending)
This position will support the Commercial Mortgage Lending department to continue to execute the 2018 business plan and effectively to originate high-quality mortgage loans. The Commercial and Consumer Insurance companies continue to show an increased demand for commercial mortgage loans and this resource is critical in order to meet these demands. It is a challenging and exciting role that will give this person the opportunity to be a part of a global high-functioning team.
Principal responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Multiple types of transactions including: whole loans, syndicated loans and CMBS, with deals sizes that vary significantly from $10 million to $1 billion.
Analyze and review third party reports including: appraisals, engineering reports as well as understand environmental assessments, zoning letters, credit reports, background checks, credit references and legal documents.
Work on preparing credit memos.
Review leases and property-level documents.
Communicate with brokers, agents and principals to complete strategic research projects and analysis to validate underwriting assumptions.
Perform site inspections and summarize findings in writing.
Research comparable properties to determine competitive amenities, rents and sales prices using CoStar, Reis, Axiometrix and Bloomberg.
Perform advanced valuation and cash flow analysis using Argus.
Interact closely with the underwriting team, internal loan originators, closers, legal and portfolio management team.
Work on quarterly accounting of the CMBS holdings (OTTI).
Relevant BA/BS degree required (preferably in Finance and/or Quantitative) and an advanced degree a plus.
Strong proficiency in MS Excel and technical aptitude.
Robust analytical skills are necessary.
Must have strong organizational, leadership, written and oral communication and quantitative skills.
The position requires a demonstrated interest in real estate and the ability to perform market research.
