Job Summary: Indirect Underwriter develops and maintains effective dealer\/customer relationships. Analyzes credit applications, makes credit decisions and communicates such decisions to the appropriate automobile dealerships or consumer lending branch personnel. Responsible for timely completion of required training applicable to the position and regular and effective application of such training in the performance of the position. Universal Job RequirementsIt is the responsibility of every employee in the bank to ensure:All personal actions demonstrate strong ethics in full alignment with all applicable consumer protection laws, financial industry regulations, the bank's overall Compliance program objectives, as well as documented policy and procedure.Personal finances are effectively managed.Reliable attendance is maintained.Personal actions continuously reflect the bank in a professional and positive manner.The Effective completion of all duties as assigned.Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities  1. Approves direct and indirect retail credit requests from dealers and branch offices within the limits of authority. Works with branch lenders to evaluate the credit worthiness of applicants. Works with branch personnel regarding structuring consumer loans and evaluating the credit worthiness of loan applicants. Counsels lenders on how to communicate declined credit while maintaining good customer relationships. 2. Ensures proper credit standards are maintained with dealers and lenders. Guides and advises dealer personnel in interpreting and applying Bank's credit policies and procedures. 3. Maintains telephone and in-house contact with dealers and\/or customers to solve problems lenders have referred, such as mediating customer-dealer disputes, discussing applications and contract rates. 4. Makes outside visits to new and existing dealers to maintain and\/or generate new relationships. Services large dealer accounts and makes credit decisions that are in the best interest of the Bank while maintaining good, long-term dealer relationships. Skills & Abilities  1. Knowledge of lending practices, policies and procedures as they pertain to Indirect Lending dealer contracts and direct consumer lending. 2. Knowledge of credit bureaus and credit scoring systems. 3. Skills in operating Microsoft office products. 4. Ability to use independent judgment in an environment that stresses both decision quality and quantity based on established policies and procedures. 5. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, subordinates and co-workers orally and in writing. 6. Knowledge of current federal and state regulations pertaining to credit extensions. 7. Familiarity with finance techniques used by dealerships in the auto market. Education & Experience: 1. Degree preferred. High school education required. 2. Five years or more progressive experience in underwriting consumer credit and handling dealer paper. 3. Three years experience in public relations, sales and customer service.
