An underwriting manager job involves developing and maintaining relationships with independent agents in order to attract and retain profitable business. An underwriting manager looks after employee training, recruiting, and teaching of underwriting techniques, underwriting in the industry, continuous supervision of latest development in underwriting trend and participation in product development projects; services of individual life clients and sales channels, performs complicated risk selection and classification within delegated authority, underwrites complicated cases, handles enquiries from all distribution channels and perform system enhancement and raise user requirement based on business needs. An underwriting managers manages the day-to-day underwriting operations by assigning work, assisting others with resolving complex problems, and recommending alternatives to rating plans and coverage. An underwriting manager provides underwriting, sales, and marketing support to distribution channels, development of new business relationship with target producers in order to achieve a profitable bottom line and agreed business strategies.
An underwriting manager requires a bachelor\\\'s degree, along with 5+ years of underwriting experience, preferably including 3+ years of management experience. An underwriting manager should have excellent knowledge of products and middle market risks, should have strong organizational and communication skills. An underwriting manager should have excellent people management skills, good interpersonal and customer services skills coupled with supportive and helpful personality.
