A loan underwriter job involves assisting in identifying, recommending and/or negotiating alternative loan requirements, funding and/or loan-structuring solutions. A loan underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, approving and underwriting large, unusual or complex individual consumer requests and products within company and industry guidelines. A loan underwriter performs compliance reviews; assisting with re-negotiations of loans based on lending guidelines; contacting customers and partners to gather information to make appropriate decisions, explain rationale behind credit decision. A loan underwriter requires a high school diploma or bachelor\'s degree or equivalent and 2+ years of related experience. A loan underwriter should have the ability to understand legal, regulatory, economic, competitive, and technological environments which potentially affect various real-estate lending programs. A loan underwriter should possess extensive understanding of underwriting systems and their components; and have computer-skills. A loan underwriter should possess excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
